My fellow member of the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Alberta, Mr. Ed Eggerer, passed away suddenly this past Sunday, March 17, 2013. Donna Wilson, member of the Commission, Ooldouz Sotoudehnia, the Commission's secretary, Joanne Geremian, our geography specialist and I are deeply saddened by this news.
We have come to know and love Ed over the last year. Ed was an instrumental part of our Commission during the development of a redistribution proposal, during the series of public hearings held across the province, and throughout the preparation of our report. His appointment to this Commission was preceded by 33 years as a returning officer for federal electoral districts in Manitoba and in Alberta, a clear demonstration of his deep commitment to the democratic process in Canada.
As our Commission nears the end of its mandate, we can only praise the commitment, knowledge and wisdom that Ed brought to the redistribution process, and we thank him for being a part of our lives.
His perspective and insightfulness were enjoyed and appreciated by all of us; he was a great team player who brought much to the table. He will be deeply missed.
Members of the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Alberta and people supporting its work wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Ed's family and close friends.
Sincerely,
Justice Carole Conrad
